Margaret Gertrude Wolfe

Margaret Gertrude Wolfe, 100, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Elm Croft Assisted Living, Kingsport, TN where she had resided for the last 7 years.

She was born March 5, 1910 to the late Adam and Annie Wallace, one of the early pioneer families in Hawkins County, TN. At the age of 16 she worked at the Kingsport Press from 1926 until 1934 when she married Hugh Kyle Wolfe, Sr. her husband of 52 years. She was an active and faithful member of Holston View Methodist Church for more than 70 years. She was a woman of enormous energy who enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, crossword puzzles and being with people. She enjoyed traveling to different places in the Country with her family and in later years with the Gate City Senior Citizen Tour Group.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Kyle Wolfe; one daughter, Mary Anne Oliver McNutt; three brothers, George Wallace, Clarence Wallace, Marshall Wallace; and one sister, Eula Harris.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Jean Johnston, Dorothy Lawson, and Helen Lemmons; two sons, Dr. Hugh Kyle Wolfe, Jr. and Dr. James Wolfe; brothers, John A Wallace and Eugene Wallace; she was loved by fourteen grandchildren, Beverly Oliver Vineyard, Terry Lee Johnston, Michael Johnston, Dawn Way, Pam Johnston, Cheryl Williams, Scott Lawson, Mark Lawson, Lisa Lemmons-Powers, Sean Wolfe, Casey Wolfe, Josh Wolfe, Bekki Dudash, Erika Phillips; along with 17 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm Monday, August 2, 2010 at Holston View United Methodist Church, Weber City, VA. A service will be held 2 pm at the church with Pastor Don Hanchew officiating. A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pam Johnston and grandchidren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Elm Croft Assisted Living and Wellmont Hospice for their tender loving care.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Holston View United Methodist Church, 174 Church Street, Weber City, VA, 24290.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Wolfe family.

Beverly, I am sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing even at age 100. We are never ready to let them go regardless of age. I have fond memories of spending several weekends with you and your Mom when you lived in the house behind your grandparents. Your grandparents were always kind and welcoming when I was there. Thanks for the memories and your friendship as we grew up. Judy
