Connie Lee Jones

(9/26/1955 – 3/18/2024)

Connie, 68, passed away peacefully on March 18th at her home with her family surrounding after her courageous battle with ALS. Connie was born in Caldwell, Idaho to the late Newman Conner Lee Sr. and the late Nancy Derrick Carter. She was preceded in death by her sister, Holly Charmaine Lee. Surviving is her husband of 40 years and the love of her life, Ken; son, Andrew Jones; daughter, Holly Jones Simonton and husband Keiko; grandsons, Maleek and Kendon Simonton; brothers, Newman Conner Lee Jr., William Ralph(Butch) Lee and wife Bridgett; sister, Sandy Leslie and husband Eric; along with several nieces and nephews.

Connie’s family moved to the Kingsport area when she was 5 years old where she grew up and graduated from Central High School in 1975. Upon graduation from High School, Connie started working at Eastman Chemical Company. She worked there for nearly 10 years until Andrew was born and she quit to raise a family. She went back to work in the Kingsport City School system in the cafeteria while the children were in school. Later on she went to work at Eastman Credit Union in the Imaging Department and worked there 10 years and also worked at the Two Sister’s Tea Room during this time until she retired from both of those jobs. After finishing her work career she stayed busy working on her beautiful hand crafted cards, cross-stitching, making quilts, making tree skirts and various craft projects while taking care of her family and enjoying life. Connie was also active in sports all her life and gave everything 100% and knew what it was to work hard and play hard. She played competitive Volleyball in the Eastman Rec league and Kingsport City league for many years.

Connie was active in church all her life and taught in Awana for over 25 years and taught Sunday School for many years as well. She was an active choir member as she loved singing all the gospel songs. Connie is a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church where she taught the High School Girls Sunday School Class as well as the College and Career Sunday School Class. She also headed up one of the Martha Ministry Teams that provided meals to families upon the death of a loved one. Connie loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She loved all kinds of music but country and gospel were her favorites and she was always singing, humming or listening to her favorite songs.

Most of all she loved her family and will be missed by them very much. She battled ALS with all she had for the past 3 years and gave it a good fight before the disease finally won out.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Higher Ground Baptist Church. A celebration of Life service will follow with Dr. Charlie Goodman officiating.
