Obituary of Letha Mildred Musick Lane

Letha Mildred Musick Lane, 93, passed away peacefully and with family lovingly by her side on March 27, 2024 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Kingsport, Tennessee. Born on March 8, 1931, Letha was the youngest of nine children born to Samuel Aston Musick and Ida Victoria (Hammonds) Musick.

Letha had many fond memories of growing up on Copper Ridge in the Manville community of Scott County, Virginia with her large family of siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews. After marrying her lifelong sweetheart, Harlan Lane, the pair moved to the Daniel Boone community of Scott County where they raised two sons and built special, lifelong friendships. In 1965, the family moved to Weber City, Virginia, and Letha began a 15+ year work career at Giant Food Markets where she enjoyed her time with her co-workers and customers. In 2021, Letha moved to Brookdale Assisted Living to be close to her best friend, Molly Jo Frazier.

Letha was a kind and loving wife, mother, and mamaw, always putting the wants and needs of her family first. Her family will remember her for being fearless, generous, and caring with a clever wit and a wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to her parents, Letha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Harlan Lane; her sisters: Rosa Templeton, Monnie Ervin, Mae Ervin, Lilus Pendleton, and Kate Templeton; and her brothers: Herbert Musick, Raymond Musick, and Luther Musick.

Surviving are her sons, Harlan Danny Lane (wife Wilma) of Knoxville, Tennessee and Marshall Daryl Lane (wife Martha) of Kingsport, Tennessee.

Letha also is survived by grandchildren Allen Lane (wife Cindy), Missy Moore (husband Brent), Sara Henry (husband Johnathan), and Anne Lane; great-grandchildren Jacob Lane, Jackson Lane, Jonahus Lane, Lane Moore, Taylor Moore, Ryland Henry, and Sutton Henry; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the wonderful staff members of Brookdale Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice who took such good care of our beloved mother.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Scott County Funeral Home.  A graveside service will follow at 12:00 pm at Holston View Cemetery with Brother David Dotson officiating.  Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.
